What’s Been Happening in Behavior Education Network:
BEN now has its own Facebook group. We’ve discussed how to best work with veterinarians to identify medical conditions that masquerade as behavior problems, conditioned emotional responses and can they be put "on cue", new behavior and training tools, and MUCH more!
October’s Pro Member webinar topic is "How to Evaluate "Scientific" Claims and Research About Dog Behavior". Our Biscuit topic for the month is "Five Questions to Ask Your Dog Training Clients About Your Cats".
September’s Pro Member webinar topic is "Understanding and Resolving Aggression Problems Among Family Dogs", a serious problem that can be complex and difficult to resolve. Our Biscuit topic for the month reviews the Six Steps in the Behavior Problem Response Protocol from Dr. Hetts’ best selling book "Pet Behavior Protocols: What to say, What to do, When to refer". It gives behavior consultants and trainers a plan for helping clients with almost any kind of behavior problem.
August’s Pro Member webinar topic was "Communicate, Cooperate, Educate, Belong AND the Real Science Behind Social Dominance". In the webinar we gave our members a viable and realistic alternative to Pack Theory as an explanation for dog behavior. Our Biscuit topic for the month was "Canine Greetings: Four Ways to Make Them Safer. This gives clients great advice about when, and how to allow greetings between their dogs and unfamiliar dogs. Our scientific article for review was on the effects of remote training collars on the welfare of dogs. We give a critical look at this important research on a very controversial piece of training equipment.
July’s Pro Member webinar topic was "Ask the Behaviorist" – answering member questions about any animal behavior topic. The Biscuit topic for the month was "Talking Point Checklists For Important Conversations With Clients." We reviewed two scientific articles concerned with social learning and dominance in dogs. We also started a private FaceBook page for BEN members to discuss topics of interest.
And that’s just a small sampling of what happens in the Behavior Education Network!
